There is a first time for everything, and it seems that firsts are often rather memorable. Your first pet, your first crush, your first car and now, hopefully, Capstone Digital’s first advisory board.
We’re proud to announce the appointment of a distinguished group of education leaders to our newly formed advisory board. Offering a diverse background of professional experience as seasoned educators and industry experts, the advisory board members will support our mission to transform literacy instruction for students in schools across the country.
The first advisory board meeting was held last weekend in Arizona. We had hours of thought provoking ideas and suggestions centered around Capstone Digital and our future. For our east coast participants we kept them up way too late – but the good news is that we fed them well! So without further ado, allow me to introduce the fine ladies and gentlemen with whom we will be working in collaboration and attended our inaugural meeting:
- Sonja Diaz, Former Chief Academic Officer for Baltimore County Public Schools
- Ken Eastwood, Superintendent of Middletown Schools
- Carl Harvey, School Librarian, North Elementary School
- Eliot Levinson, Founder and CEO of BLEgroup
- Jon Madian, Co-Founder of Smart Learning Communities
- Dale Mann, Managing Director of Interactive, Inc., Professor Emeritus at Columbia University
- Barbara Rooks, Former Head of Libraries for Hillsborough County Public Schools
- Malbert Smith, President of Metametrics
- Thomas Watkins, Former State Superintendent of Schools in Michigan
We’re extremely honored that these nine industry experts have agreed to share their insights and recommendations with us. Their guidance will further shape the development of Capstone Digital, as we work to develop new digital tools for libraries and classrooms.
By the way, today we’re headed to Chicago for School Library Journal’s Leadership Summit 2010 on The Future of Reading. Capstone Digital is sponsoring the welcome reception tomorrow night, so be sure to stop by and introduce yourself. If you’re unable to attend the summit, you can participate by following #sljsummit10 on Twitter, and we’ll also be sure to share what we learn with you here next week.
