We here at Capstone Fiction are an admitted bunch of foodies. And we're proud of it. Now, when we say we're foodies, that doesn't mean we necessarily follow food trends and learn about molecular gastronomy or anything like that. No, it just means we like food. Every week, for example, there's a standing appointment on our Thursdays around noon (or 11:30 if we're really hungry): Thursday Lunch. During the summer, we pretty much always go to this great little cafe we know as "the Chalet." In the colder months we switch it up a little. Though this started out as a group of fiction editors and designers, it's since expanded to include folks from every department here. It's a great way to get together with colleagues and just have fun (and eat well).
And speaking of food-related get-togethers, yesterday marked the opening of the Minnesota State Fair. This year I want to try the iced chai (on a stick) and fried fruit (on a stick). And get some of my old favorites, the honey-sunflower ice cream, the fried pickles, and cheese curds.
As we go through these last few days of summer, what better way to celebrate the bounty of life than through delicious food in the company of excellent people?
You might be thinking, "But what does this have to do with books?" Well, nothing. Except, of course, that books nourish the soul the way that food nourishes the body--and both should be enjoyed whenever they are bountiful and fresh and delicious.
