Publishing is a fast-paced world. Right now I'm editing books for our Fall 2013 season, hiring authors to write books for our Spring 2014 season, and helping to plan the pub lists for Fall 2014 and Spring 2015. Since we're always concentrating on creating the next great product, I rarely stop to admire the work we've done. But there are two books I've worked on lately that I just had to step back and say, "Wow."
"Just look at the popularity of television’s Cupcake Wars or local bakeries, and you can be confident of an audience for Rau’s luscious book. There are recipes for more than 50 lovely confections here. Each creation begins with a plain cupcake, cookie, or cake, and then, following (mostly) simple instructions, an edible work of art results. Ranging from quirky to cute, clever to elegant, there is something here for everyone. Create a bird’s nest on top of a cupcake, or maybe wedge of cheese and some mice from pound cake, cherry stems, and chocolate kisses.
The book is laid out with the instructions along with helpful tips on the left page, and a full-color, up-close photo of the finished treat on the right. An opening spread shows photos of utensils needed. Kids—whether artists or foodies—will be drawn to this attractive, accessible offering, and many moms will fight to join them in the kitchen."
Paper Artist: Creations Kids Can Fold, Tear, Wear, or Share
I thankfully didn't gain weight with this book, but I did suffer a severe paper cut while fact-checking it. See, we do put our blood, sweat, and tears into these books. :)
This book doesn't come out until March, but we've already had some wonderful responses on NetGalley about this book, including this one:
"Beautifully photographed craft projects with easy to follow, step by step instructions makes for a lovely book for kids. It's great also that the supplies needed are inexpensive and accessible to the target audience. Many of the projects are very easy while some give the reader a challenge. I'll be purchasing this one!"
I really think these books will knock your socks off. Go take a look!
