Jon Scieszka’s The True Story of the Three Little Pigs was one of my favorite books as a child. The idea that an innocent wolf with a cold could be so misunderstood made me rethink anything I’d ever held true about right and wrong. Okay, okay, that’s a vast overstatement. Regardless, it comes as no surprise that I’m a big fan of fairy tale retellings, and therefore, Capstone’s new series: Twicetold Tales.
These remakes of classic fairy tales place familiar
characters in contemporary settings. They incorporate the moral value of the
original fairy tales while addressing modern-day issues that confront children
and teens on a daily basis. How will I deal with challenges? What have I done
to get myself into this situation? What are the potential consequences of my
decisions? Where can I go for help? These questions and more are all contemplated
in some way or another by the main character of each Twicetold Tale.
