One of the most important days of the school year when I was in elementary school was Read Across America Day. And the holiday is coming up this week! One of my favorite things about Read Across America Day was the lasting effect that one special day had on the months and years following. It helped to instill the value of reading for pleasure in young kids. In fact, I can say with confidence that it helped confirm for me that reading was fun.
How will you celebrate reading in your home or classroom this week? And how can you ensure that the wonder and excitement of reading will last beyond the week for the youngsters in your life? If you need some inspiration, check out the students of Roosevelt Elementary School in California doing a flashmob readathon!
