You may have noticed that our new logo for the Maupin House by Capstone Professional brand features an apple. Apples are a symbol of teachers and their relationship to their students, and we wanted to keep that relationship at the forefront of our product line. But there’s something else that is symbolic and topical about the apple. While it has no intentional connection to the “core” of Common Core, or the notion of getting to the “core” of good instruction, the metaphor sure makes sense.
Maupin House by Capstone Professional offers an impressive range of professional development resources to help teachers get to the core of the rigorous Common Core standards. Our newest releases have something for every teacher, regardless of their individual Common Core needs. We have a book for teachers attempting to maintain the magic of the kindergarten classroom and meet the demands of kindergarten Common Core requirements called Kindergarten and the Common Core: It’s as Easy as ABC! Another of our new releases, Linking K−2 literacy and the Common Core, provides mini-lessons to connect reading and writing instruction. For reading intervention, Jane Feber provides activities to engage struggling adolescent readers with Engage Striving Students in the Common Core Classroom. Writing Strategies for the Common Core Classroom helps teachers teach the writing forms and test preparation needed at grades 6−8. Those are just some of our newest Common Core resources. See our catalog for even more books, with more strategies and practical tools–all developed by leading-edge authors to support your needs.
One of our new books, Reading to the Core, has a title that plays on the idea of getting right to the “core” of Common Core and student performance. This book, authored by three experts in close and critical reading of complex text, gives teachers a literacy action plan to help students achieve college and career readiness. The authors provide insightful tools that help students become not just critical readers and thinkers, but informed citizens.
