Valentine's Day and poetry go together. They just do.
When I was a kid, I used to write poems for my family members to show them that I loved them, because I was much better at writing than saying what was on my mind! I found one of these poems on my mom's desk recently, and it was called "Ode to a Pair of Stinky, Lifeless Shoes". Your first thought may not be that this was meant to be a poem expressing my love for my dad (via observations of his running shoes), but it was.
What I love about poetry is that it can be silly. It can be abstract. It can be in rhyming couplets or in a prose-like structure. It can be anything you want it to be, really.
Valentine's Day is the perfect time to practice your poetry, and to use it to show your loved ones you care. Check out some of my favorite Capstone poetry titles to get started!
