Happy publication day to When Penny Met POTUS!
Publishing just in time for the 4th of July holiday, and with an alarming 5 months until the US presidential election, this picture book brings sweetness and fun back to the White House. Penny’s mom works for POTUS, and Penny is thrilled to be able to go to work one day. She imagines POTUS must be a giant monster-like creature, and is quite disappointed when she meets the actual President.
The trade team was charmed as soon as Nick Healy shared Rachel Ruiz’s manuscript with us. Rachel came up with this concept when she worked on President Obama’s reelection campaign and her daughter, then 5, couldn’t quite understand what POTUS might stand for. Christianne Jones worked with Rachel to edit the manuscript, and Bob Lentz found a wonderful illustrator in Melissa Manwill, who made Penny and the imaginary POTUS adorable and funny.
Have a wonderful Independence Day (and long weekend)!
