Teacher Appreciation

I will never forget the incredible preschool teachers my kids had back in the early 1990s. We lived in Colorado at the time and both my kids went to St. Michael’s preschool in Aurora. Miss Connie was her name. She was the nicest and most patient woman ever!  Not only was she kind and loving to the kids, but she was always there for questions and for helping us to become better parents. Here’s my son receiving his preschool diploma from Miss Connie. My son is now 27 years old, but every once in a while we remember Miss Connie and how good she was to all the kids at St. Michael’s. Thanks to Miss Connie and all the other outstanding teachers out there who care so much for our kids.

It goes without saying that being part of a successful team is an opportunity of a lifetime. Many people have become famous because of the teams that they coached with one of the most famous and top of mind is that of the late, great John Wooden whose famous quote, "It is amazing how much can be accomplished if no one cares who gets the credit.” personifies Capstone Digital.

Capstone Digital is part of a much larger team that includes a great group of internal partners like our Capstone Publishers: Compass Point, Stone Arch Books, Picture Window Books, Capstone Press, Heinmann-Raintree; and external partners including our customers (Library, Classroom, Trade and Digital), our PR partner, C. It just so happens that part of the Capstone Digital team just completed a great day of meetings with MetaMetrics to discuss our successful partnership, how to continue to build awareness of The Lexile® Framework for Reading among our customers,  and how myON reader is a valuable tool for administrators to use to help promote literacy in schools.

It goes without saying that without a great team in place including the entire Capstone organization (Including our corporate IT, product development, accounting, customer service, sales and support, and marketing communications teams), Capstone Digital would not have been awarded the 2011 Bessie Awards for myON reader and PebbleGo in the Early Elementary Reading and Science Website category respectively.

While our singing voices are not spectacular apparently our presence at TCEA was worthy of Hollywood accolades! Ok we can't fool you - Capstone Digital was awarded the Texas Computer Education Association Idol Award. For more on that and a radio interview listen here.

The Capstone Digital Chronicles

Welcome to Capstone Digital Wednesday!

As President of Capstone Digital, I am excited to introduce this new blog from Capstone. Every Wednesday we promise to provide you with an inside look at Capstone Digital as we work to bring new digital offerings to schools across the country.  In return, we ask that you use this online forum to communicate with us and share your thoughts and opinions.  To get us started, watch the video below for a quick overview of our division and what we have achieved so far.

 

 

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to attend “Ebooks: Libraries at the Tipping Point,” the first virtual summit sponsored by School Library Journal and Library Journal.   During the summit, I participated in a session titled “ The School Library Journal Without Walls: New Content, New Collections,” along with Joyce Valenza, Marc Aronson, and Erin Sullivan.  Among the hot topics discussed were the future of ebooks, the manner in which they are used, and how they can be cataloged and organized by school libraries.  For a complete recap of the event, read this article from School Library Journal: “SLJ, LJ’s First Virtual Ebook Summit Is a Big Hit.”

In other news, two Capstone Digital products were honored this year with EDDIE Awards from the ComputED Learning Center: PebbleGo and Capstone Interactive Library.  PebbleGo earned an EDDIE Award for best Early Elementary Reading and Science Website, while Capstone Interactive Library was named best Language Arts Website for Middle School.  The annual awards program honors education products and websites for their innovation, richness of content and the collaborative nature through which they foster educational excellence.
