Capstone Digital has logged serious “airtime” for the past few weeks visiting customers, attending events & shows, presenting VIP Previews and of course attending the inaugural Advisory Board meeting. All in all, I believe we have been in over 16 states in 27 days. But as the rookie in the Capstone Digital group, I have to admit I had an epiphany while attending the SLJ Summit in Chicago last week. Overall there were 12 seasoned veterans of Capstone attending and we talked to many librarians and media specialists from across the country and Canada. As you are reading this, you are probably asking yourself an epiphany at SLJ Summit, was it a new library gadget/product, new book, acclaimed author/researcher, well not exactly. Mine was simply - librarians LOVE Capstone books. Fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels - it just didn’t matter - they simply LOVE our books!
At the SLJ Summit we had the opportunity to listen to librarians describe their passion about their libraries and favorite books and understand they are perplexed about the future of both. We listened to a host of people describe their reading experiences (students from University Laboratory High School in Illinois), current research (Andres Henriques, Program Officer for the Carnegie Corporation of NY, and Dr. Catherine Snow), and educational strategy (Karen Cantor, Director, Office of Educational Technology). Obviously the future is now! Books are not going away but the question remain how do we integrate technology, create personalize reading, integrate technology and increase student reading achievement? One solid answer was not provided, but I am definitely going to stay tuned!
Capstone would like to extend a great big THANK YOU to our panelists, Barbara Rooks and Marlene Simmons for participating in our "Establishing a Personalized Reading Environment—a Model to Implement" panel at the SLJ Summit
So, what is it that you love about Capstone? As always we would love to hear from you but in the meantime stay tuned and find out where the Digital road is going...maybe to a city near you!
