What a day! Last week, Capstone delivered 10,000 books to the offices of the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) to be distributed to preschools across southern Minnesota. Each school sends in a proposal stating how they would use books if their proposal were accepted by SMIF. Our preference is that the children would get them in their hands as soon as possible.
My assistant, Claire Berge and I had the opportunity to meet the winners of the BookSmart program and to hear how the books will be used. I am amazed at how clever these teachers and towns are! These teachers are definitely putting books into the children’s hands! One program gives books to kids as part of their reading in the park program, another developed a “read around town” program placed in local businesses where parent educators meet with parents to tell them how important it is to read to their children.
By the end of the day, all 10,000 books were loaded and sent to participating schools. It was hard work, but well worth it!
Happy reading to all!
