As the year rapidly commences and time is short to find Common Core literature links, look no more if you are teaching science in the elementary school. Here enters Capstone’s Curious Pearl, Science Girl 4D series.
You are in luck if you are looking for curricular ties to:
- States of matter
- Light
- Migration
- Seasons
In Curious Pearl, Science Girl 4D, you are not going to find just another boring, non-fiction text. These books are full of colorful illustrations with diverse characters having interesting conversations that are based on non-fiction topics.
One of my favorite pieces of this series is the Capstone 4D augmented reality feature. To access this, you simply download the free Capstone 4D app from iTunes or Google Play. Aim the app at the stars that are placed throughout the book, and watch an engaging, on-topic video. There are no less than 4 interactive videos in each book of this series.
If you are not yet interested in this fresh new series, what if you learned that each one contains a science activity, critical thinking questions and a FactHound connection? Unfamiliar with FactHound? You head over to www.FactHound.com and type in the shared number from the back of your book. Here you will be linked to quality websites and books to further your study. These websites can easily be added to a digital binder for students to access for further study or paired with Pebblego.
Put this to action in a classroom:
- Complete a read aloud with a Curious Pearl book. While doing so, model strong non-fiction reading strategies, ie looking in the glossary for unknown words, pausing to digest information and asking questions, etc. As you are completing your read-aloud, on your mobile device, model the interactive Capstone 4D app so that students know how to use this independently.
- Do you see power in affixing directions to parents inside of the front cover so that children can access the interactive 4D piece at home - even without the internet? Think equity. How about helping your teaching staff and adding Common Core Learning Standards in the front of the book as well?
Let Curious Pearl ignite interest in your students!
